Classes & Workshops

This fall/winter I will be teaching some beginning knitting, spinning, tunisian crochet and needle felting classes that will be available through the CVU Access program.  This is a fantastic local program that offers classes on so many different subjects, cooking, languages, music, arts, crafts, photography, gardening, and many more.  Take a look below at the classes that are available, links will be available on August 27 when registration opens to take you to the CVU Access page where you can register for the classes.

Intro to Spinning with a Drop Spindle

Thursday September 23, 30 6:30-8:30pm

Spinning is such a rewarding fiber art, you get to make the exact yarn you want to knit, crochet or weave with! Drop spindles are portable, so you can take your spinning with you on the go, and before you know it, you’ll have a skein of yarn that you made! Please note, we will be using wool for felting in this class, in case you have an allergy.

Intro to Knitting - Super Bulky, Cozy Cowl

Thursday October 7, 14, 21 6:30-8:30pm
Join us for this fun, informative class where Kelly will teach you how to Cast On, Knit, Purl and Bind Off. You’ll talk about yarn, needles, other tools of the trade, gauge and pattern reading, so you’ll have a good base of information to get you started off right! This cowl is so much fun to knit and wear, and makes great gifts for the holidays too; you’ll want to make one in every color!

Next Steps in Knitting – Knit a Hat

Thursday Nov 4, 11, 18  - 6:30 - 8:30 PM

In this class Kelly will teach you to make a quick to knit hat that everyone will love! You’ll review casting on, and then jump right into working a basic ribbing – alternating the knit and purl stitches in the same round. There will be some relaxing stockinette stitch for a bit, then you’ll take on decreasing to complete the crown shaping. If you’ve done a bit of knitting before, this class is just the thing to take you through the next steps in your journey!

Needle Felt a Sheep

Tuesday Dec 7 5:30-8:30pm
Join us for a fun filled class to learn needle felting! You will learn how simple and
rewarding this craft can be. We will be making a sheep in this class, but you can go on to craft so many
different creations! No experience necessary, but, as we will be using sharp needles, this class is not
recommended for children. Please note, we will be using wool for felting in this class, in case you have an
allergy.

Introduction to Tunisian Crochet

Thursday Jan 13, 20 - 6:30 - 8:30 PM
Have you heard of or seen Tunisian crochet before? This is a fun fiber arts technique that is almost a hybrid of knitting and crochet. If you knit and have wanted to crochet, this class is for you, it’s a great way to ease into crochet. We’ll be working on a cowl in this class using the Tunisian Simple Stitch, which makes a dense, textured fabric. We’ll also go over some other stitches that mimic the knit and purl stitches and allow you so many stitch and texture combinations!
